The School Nurse (Floater) strengthens the educational process by addressing health-related barriers to learning and promoting wellness among students and staff. This role provides nursing services across a designated zone of schools, ensuring appropriate assessment, intervention, and referral activities. The nurse acts as a liaison between physicians, families, and community agencies, and delivers health-related instruction and counseling.

This role provides nursing services across a designated zone of schools, ensuring appropriate assessment, intervention, and referral activities. The nurse acts as a liaison between physicians, families, and community agencies, and delivers health-related instruction and counseling.
What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)
Student Health Management
- Covering openings at schools due to the regular school nurse needing to take PTO. May also be asked to cover long-term for vacancies created during the school year.
- Assist nurses at their home schools on days of special events such as Score 1, screening days, medical field trips, etc.
- Conduct health screenings and assessments to identify at-risk individuals and existing problems.
- Develop and implement nursing care plans, including medication administration and special health care procedures.
- Manage immunization records and ensure compliance with state statutes.
- Assess and address student injuries and illnesses, providing appropriate first aid and documentation.
- Identify and manage communicable diseases common to school-age populations.
- Provide health counseling and guidance to students, parents, and staff.
- Teach first aid procedures and emergency care.
- Present health information in an organized and age-appropriate manner.
- Educate students, families, and staff on health conditions and treatment plans.
- Encourage teachers to incorporate health concepts into the curriculum.
- Collaborate with health professionals, community agencies, and school staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Serve as a liaison between physicians, families, and community resources.
- Report appropriate health information to local health units.
- Participate in disaster drills and safety assessments.
- Maintain compliance with the Missouri Nursing Practice Act and relevant statutes.
- Continuously update knowledge and incorporate new techniques in school health.
- Document essential health information and maintain accurate records.
- Assess the school environment for safety and health hazards.
- Licensed in the State of Missouri as a Registered Nurse.
- Graduation from an accredited Associate’s degree program in Nursing (ADN).
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Experience in a school or medical setting.
