Position Summary
Under the direction of the School Principal, the Dual Language Immersion Program Specialist will support the Dual Language classrooms with the establishment and implementation of Dual Language. This involves providing professional development, curriculum development, and data analysis to ensure the program's success and effectiveness. The specialist also plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration between teachers, administrators, and families.
What You'll Be Doing (Primary Duties/Responsibilities)
KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9.0% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
Physical Demands
This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

This involves providing professional development, curriculum development, and data analysis to ensure the program's success and effectiveness. The specialist also plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration between teachers, administrators, and families.
What You'll Be Doing (Primary Duties/Responsibilities)
- Coordinates the recruitment of new students and conducts informational sessions at schools and in the community for prospective families.
- Coordinates with feeder elementary, middle, high schools (as well as post-secondary institutions) to ensure articulation of programs design and curriculum.
- Communicates frequently with parents to update them on Dual Language Immersion Programs happenings, to identify community resources and to help parents support their students’ academic growth.
- Works with school administrators to create criteria for teacher recruitment and hiring and serves on interview committees.
- Develops and implements a training program for all staff on the school’s model and approach, and on the fundamentals of Dual
- Language Immersion Programs.
- Develops a list of community language resources (e.g. available speakers, venues for field trips) that can facilitate authentic use of target languages.
- Develops an understanding of curriculum that will be used in the Dual Language Programs, and research supplemental materials and resources.
- Creates and monitors procedures for Dual Language Programs staff to collaborate on planning and implementing the instructional program.
- Stays current on research and best practices related to the education of language learners, attend trainings and conferences to build knowledge of Dual Language Immersion Programs.
- Engages in networking with outside school districts and regional Dual Language Program schools.
- Ensures that program communications are up to date (website, video, brochure)
- Communicates with school and other District staff to advocate for the needs of the Dual Language Program students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bring Expertise and Vision:
- Master's Degree in content-related area.
- Hold or be eligible for Missouri teacher certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience.
- Experience with implementing creative strategies to address student and teacher challenges.
- Proficiency in integrating technology into school operations and classroom practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams toward achieving common goals.
- Proven experience in building positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and adapting to evolving educational standards.
- A solutions-oriented approach to overcoming challenges in a dynamic school environment.
