Description
Under general supervision of Branch Manager, provides reference, information, community referral, readers advisory and ILL and other basic library services to customers in person and by telephone; participates in collection development and maintenance; may maintain branch operations in absence of Branch Manager. With support or at direction from the Branch Manager will reach out to the community and collaborate with local leaders and area agencies.
Basic Information
- Reports to the Plaza Customer Services Manager.
- 24 hours per week.
- $20.05 per hour.
- Position is open until filled.
Schedule
Monday & Tuesday: 5 pm - 9 pm.
Saturday: 8:30 am - 5 pm.
Sunday: 9:30 am - 6 pm.

Plaza Branch: 4801 Main Street, KCMO, 64112.
Job Duties (Essential Functions)
- Provides reference, information, readers advisory, community referral and ILL services to facilitate effective use of library resources: accesses online databases within specified guidelines referring more complex requests to librarian; instructs patrons in the use of library resources including computer equipment; recommends and retrieves materials in support of customer requests; provides information on community services and events; promotes and accepts requests for materials in circulation or located elsewhere in system.
- Provides circulation and registration services to assure patrons ready access to library materials: checks materials in and out; issues library cards; collects fines and deposits; clears customer records; explains circulation policies and procedures; makes computer customer inquiries; checks shelves for overdue materials.
- Performs circulation and registration services support tasks to maintain dependable circulation records: enters customer information; processes customers' reserve requests; resolves discrepancies; resolves customer complaints/staff problems related to circulation and registration services, referring unresolved problems to the Branch Manager.
- Responsible for developing throughout the year adult and children's services and programming.
- In absence of the Branch Manager and/or Assistant Branch Manager, maintains adequate staffing, assures provision of services and resolves problems.
- Assists with collection maintenance.
- Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.

- Must be able to work at a counter used for customer interactions.
- Must be able to access materials from shelves which may be overhead or those which may be below waist level.
- Many duties performed while standing and bending; ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to speak and understand English is required, additional consideration will be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages spoken in Jackson County, MO including Spanish, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- 3 or more years of Library or Customer Service experience preferred.
Work Environment
Work is performed at the Plaza Library Branch. Workspace is shared with co-workers and patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
