What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underwriting Consultant position at Kansas City Life Insurance Company?
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree or equivalent work experience. Degree in health, finance or business administration preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in a production underwriting environment demonstrating knowledge, capability and responsibilities commensurate with underwriter level
- Underwriting exposure to occupation, avocation, aviation and medically substandard business.
- Knowledge and/or experience in audit processes and project responsibilities.
- Experience working with New Business and other underwriting personnel while maintaining flexibility, independence and self-motivation to complete daily underwriting assignments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the life insurance industry. Includes federal/state regulations, risk management, reinsurance agreements, products/riders and their effects on the insurance industry, its processes and corporate goals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access and other database technologies.
- FALU, FLMI and other life insurance industry designations preferred.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to overall corporate profitability through the use of informed, balanced, economical risk stratification and case disposition.
- Contribute to the sale and conservation of company products through accurate risk assessment and utilization of objective and competitive risk selection modalities.
- Contribute to corporate growth through energetic relationship building with our contracted or prospective general agents, regional sales representatives and policyholders by outlining departmental procedures and providing prompt, accurate and efficient service.
- Work with Chief Underwriter, home office personnel, and reinsurance partners in product pricing activities involving underwriting guidelines, procedures, facultative case submissions and other duties as assigned.
- Develop and nurture strong working relationships with new business staff to continually review application life cycle time and make recommendations for improvement.
- Work with the AVP/Chief Underwriter, New Business and Underwriting departments to identify, plan and develop processes/procedures to support departmental and corporate strategies.
