Summary
This position supports the Custodial Manager while leading assigned custodial operations across the College and serves as a resource for assigned locations, including staff support, building inspections, training, special projects, inventory management, and emergency response.
The Custodial Supervisor is accountable for daytime custodial staff and for ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, while leading staff and operations in alignment with college policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. The role also coordinates Facilities Management Services (custodial, maintenance, and grounds) in response to campus needs or events and serves as the primary on-site liaison for contractors and vendors.

Position Description
Supervision
- Primary duty is the management and oversight of custodial operations and staff. This role assumes Custodial Manager responsibilities in their absence, per an established schedule, and may assist with custodial tasks only as needed during staffing shortages or emergency situations.
- Directly supervises and oversees a team of up to 15 custodians across multiple shifts, including seven-day operations, with responsibility for scheduling, work assignment, and workflow coordination to meet operational needs.
- Exercises independent judgment in resolving operational issues, responding to facility needs, and reallocating resources as necessary.
- Leads performance management in coordination with the Custodial Manager and Director, including coaching, evaluation, and administering corrective and disciplinary actions.
- Participates in the hiring process and provides input on promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations, with recommendations given.
- Oversees custodial operations during special events, athletic activities, banquets, and departmental moves
- Conducts daily building inspections to maintain quality and safety standards

- Experience with custodial practices related to large-scale facilities, remodels, or new construction
- Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels
- Commitment to working with and supporting a broad range of students, faculty, and staff
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years of custodial experience, including knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and chemical use.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience in custodial, facilities, or similar operations, including training and supporting staff.
- Experience in using and/or training others on the safe handling and application of custodial chemicals and equipment in accordance with safety standards (e.g., OSHA guidelines).
- Basic computer skills, including at least six (6) months of experience using Microsoft Office or similar programs.
- Must have and maintain a current, valid driver's license and a clear driving record.
- Associate or higher degree.
- Experience with Microsoft Project.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in more than one language; Spanish preferred.
