**SUMMARY**
The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach by
coaching student athletes, recruiting, monitoring student athlete
academic progress, scheduling, managing travel, and overseeing the
discipline, conduct, and image of the student athletes.
**POSITION DESCRIPTION**
Responsible for recruiting prospective student athletes. This includes,
but is not limited to, evaluating past performance, making contact,
following up on prospective athletes, timely submission of their
academic records for admissions, and assisting with the designation and
compliance of scholarship offers to prospective student-athletes.
Responsible for the monitoring of academic progress and status of team
members, study hall coordination and compliance, and implementing action
plans through appropriate college staff as appropriate.
Under the direction of the head coach, plan coaching and practice
sessions in accordance with regulations. This includes, but is not
limited to, coordinating line-ups, game strategies, practice
itineraries, and individual workouts, and managing a designated skill
development area for a group of positions.
Develop and recommend game strategy and position assignments to the head
coach.
Monitor the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and supplies, including
accountability for expense control and administration of the sports
budget.
Responsible for the direction and planning of team travel in
collaboration with college administrative staff.
Responsible for the promotion of the Department of Athletics and the
Mens basketball team through community events, public speaking,
fundraising, and marketing.
Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes
according to College, Department of Athletics, and team policies and
procedures.
Monitor the conditioning and training of student-athletes in
collaboration with the Athletic Training staff.
Maintain and update the Mens basketball team social media accounts and
calendar.
In collaboration with the Athletics Facilities and Operations
Coordinator, oversee the set-up and tear-down of equipment for home
games and events.
Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics
aligned with college priorities and goals.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
Working knowledge of sport rules and the ability to teach critical
skills, regulations, competitive strategies, and training techniques.
Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical
potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics.
Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Must demonstrate an understanding of the role of intercollegiate
athletics.
Demonstrates core practice skills such as active listening, open-ended
questions, summarizing, and reframing.
Creates a welcoming and trusting environment that engages students,
placing the students\' unique experiences at the center of the work.
Fosters agency through developmental advising practices that encourage
self-efficacy, self-determination, self-advocacy, and accountability.
Thecapacity to represent the College at local agencies/organizations\'
activities and groupmeetings.
Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with a
multi-cultural student, faculty, and staff population.
