Position Title: School Psychologist

Department: Special Education

Reports to: Director of Special Education

FLSA Class: Exempt

Starting Salary: $51,500

Summary

To provide comprehensive school psychological services to parents, teachers, children, and administrators in the special education department.

DUTIES

  • Provides individualized child study in the areas of intellectual ability, education achievement, and social/emotional adjustment.
  • Provides recommendations to school personnel for education remediation, special class eligibility determination, and behavioral intervention.
  • The school psychologist shall assist students directly toward adjustment to school. 4. Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for student whose diagnosed problem would benefit from behavior modification.
  • Participates in case conference when referred students are involved, or as requested. 6. Participates in RTI and other special education wide interventions.
  • Attends multi-disciplinary staff conferences.
  • Provides follow-up of student progress and home/school adjustment.
  • Provides consultation services to parents, teachers, school personnel, and community agencies. 10. Participates in in-service training for staff members.
  • Supervises training of school psychologist interns in the school special education department. 12. Keeps informed of new developments in the field.
  • The psychologist will participate with the administrative team regarding general Principal, Department Head, and special education department meetings.
  • Performs all duties necessary to the position and such other duties as may be fixed by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Holds a master's degree in Psychology.
  • Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Support Personnel Endorsement in School Psychologist.
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree

Working Conditions And Environment

  • Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
