Position Overview:
As a Peer Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting and guiding fellow students through their college journey. You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive campus community. Your primary responsibility will be to provide academic, social, and personal support to your peers, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
Examples of Duties
A. Mentorship: Provide one-on-one mentoring to assigned students, offering guidance, motivation, and encouragement to help them succeed academically and personally.
B. Academic Support: Assist students with study strategies, time management, and organizational skills to enhance their learning experience.
C. Campus Resource Guidance: Familiarize students with campus resources, such as tutoring centers, counseling services, and academic advisors, to ensure they have access to the support they need.
D. Workshops and Group Sessions: Lead or participate in workshops and/or group sessions to address common challenges faced by students and offer practical solutions.
E. Referral and Follow-up: Identify students in need of additional support and refer them to appropriate services while following up to ensure they are receiving the assistance required.
F. Maintain Records: Keep accurate records of mentoring sessions, progress, and any issues addressed, ensuring confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
A, Currently enrolled at KCC and must be eligible for the Federal Work Study program.
B. Strong academic performance with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
C. Demonstrated leadership or involvement on campus and/or in the community.
D. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
E. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills highly desirable.
F. Self-motivation skills and ability to work with little supervision required.
G. Empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental attitude towards students' challenges.
H. Previous mentoring, tutoring, or leadership experience is a plus.
Supplemental Information
Rate of pay: $15.00 per hour, eff 1/1/25.
Work hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. (will work with class schedule)
This position, along with these hours, will be split between three peer mentors. These three peer mentors will be a team who will meet weekly with their peer coordinator for ongoing training, support, and supervision.
