Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and efficiently manage patient check-in and check-out procedures using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and conduct insurance verification to facilitate accurate billing and claims processing
- Schedule appointments accurately utilizing medical scheduling software and coordinate with medical staff to optimize clinic flow
- Handle multi-line phone systems with professionalism, providing excellent patient service and directing calls appropriately
- Maintain meticulous medical records, review documentation for accuracy, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy and data security
- Assist with billing processes including medical collection efforts, coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), and documentation review for billing accuracy
- Support administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, managing office supplies, and maintaining a clean, organized front desk area
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment, preferably in a clinic or dental office
- Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly desirable
- Familiarity with medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), billing procedures, insurance verification, and health information management
- Excellent communication skills with professional phone etiquette; bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse patient populations
- Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing accuracy (10 key typing preferred)
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion in accordance with HIPAA standards
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and appointment scheduling
- Previous experience working in a healthcare setting with knowledge of dental terminology or hospital experience is advantageous
