We're looking for a hands-on Application Support Engineer to support business-critical communications software deployed within customer environments.
Our client is a global software company whose communications platforms support public safety, transportation, utilities, defense, and large enterprise organizations where reliable communication is essential.
This isn't a traditional Linux administration, network engineering, or software development role. You'll focus on troubleshooting a production application running on Red Hat Linux, digging into logs, traces, and system behavior to identify the root cause of complex technical issues.
You'll work across the application, Linux environment, and customer infrastructure to determine what's going wrong and help get systems back up and running.
What You'll Do
- Provide ongoing technical support for communications software deployed within customer environments.
- Troubleshoot application issues in Red Hat Enterprise Linux using command-line tools, logs, traces, processes, and services.
- Perform root cause analysis to determine whether issues originate within the application, Linux operating system, customer network, configuration, or an integrated system.
- Investigate connectivity and application behavior using tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump.
- Support software running in virtualized environments, including VMware.
- Work with engineering and technical teams to investigate complex issues and drive them toward resolution.
- Document troubleshooting steps, technical findings, and procedures.
- Participate in an on-call rotation after approximately six months of training.
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on Linux troubleshooting experience, ideally with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Experience supporting applications running on Linux servers in production or customer environments.
- Comfortable working in the command line and analyzing logs, traces, processes, and services.
- Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot across application, operating system, networking, and integration layers.
- Familiarity with Wireshark, tcpdump, or similar diagnostic tools.
- VMware or other virtualization experience is a plus.
Experience with telecom software, VoIP, SIP, or IP communications is a plus, particularly if you've supported software platforms deployed within customer networks.
Compensation & Details
- Salary: $125,000–$130,000
- Location: Jersey City, NJ area
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid
- On-Call: Rotational support after approximately six months of training
- Work Authorization: U.S. citizens and Green Card holders only. Sponsorship is not available.
