Position Summary

This program provides a Social Worker (SW) as a resource to the community to address issues that are not always criminal in nature. This program supplies a Social Worker to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) for situations that require a joint effort. With the proper level of social work intervention, this program supports and promotes positive change for individuals experiencing different types of crises by connecting them to supportive community resources.

Work schedule (requires flexibility to adjust work hours): Monday through Friday, with regular rotations between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm shifts. There is also the obligation to provide service on a 24-hour emergency basis, as needed (call-outs can be for suicides/homicides, domestic violence, volatile parent/ child conflict, cases of severe mental or physical trauma, sexual assault cases).

Duties:

  • Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

o Perform crisis intervention involving assessing and evaluating the emotional well-being of an individual.

o Provide short-term case management to individuals and families.

o Make referrals to and consult with other agencies.

o Coordinate and develop local, state, and federal grant information and applications.

o Maintain ongoing professional relationships with schools, courts, other social service agencies, and professional organizations.

o Provide training and communication to the Police Department regarding various mental health issues.

o Court advocacy.

o Follow up on referrals from the police department.

o Assist police with death notifications and critical incidents/traumatic events.

Qualifications: To be a successful candidate, one must be skilled in crisis intervention assessment and possess knowledge of personality theory, psychological principles, drug/alcohol abuse characteristics, marital/family theory and dynamics, and general social welfare policy. One must possess the ability to work in crisis situations, make assessments, communicate and interact effectively with hospital and social service organizations, and collaborate with law enforcement personnel.

Job Requirements:

· Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field (counseling, psychology, etc.).

· Previous Social Service Work experience required

· Licensed Social Work (LSW or LCSW) or related licensure (i.e., Licensed Professional)

· Valid Illinois Class D Driver’s license and vehicle insurance
