Part Time Landfill Clerk

JOB The Part-Time Landfill Clerk is responsible for providing backup relief and operational support for the Scale Clerk function at the Kandiyohi County Landfill. This position assists with customer service, scale operations, waste inspection, cash handling, recordkeeping, and facility maintenance activities. The position serves on an on-call basis throughout the year, including Saturdays as needed, to ensure continuous landfill operations and customer service. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Operates computerized scale software to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles and accurately record transactions.
• Inspects incoming loads of waste and directs customers to appropriate disposal or processing areas in accordance with landfill policies and procedures.
• Provides customer service by responding to inquiries in person, by telephone, and through email communications.
• Processes daily receipts, including handling cash transactions, preparing deposits, and maintaining accurate financial records.
• Maintains records and enters transaction information into computerized systems and databases.
• Assists customers by explaining landfill procedures, fees, disposal requirements, and accepted materials.
• Performs facility maintenance and janitorial duties, including cleaning buildings and grounds, painting, and maintaining a safe and orderly work environment.
• Monitors work areas to ensure compliance with landfill safety standards and operational procedures.
• Coordinates with landfill staff to support daily operations and maintain efficient customer service.
• Serves as on-call backup coverage for Scale Clerk duties throughout the year, including Saturday hours as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Work is performed in both office and outdoor landfill environments.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform physical activities throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and carry materials and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
• Ability to operate office equipment and perform data entry tasks.
• Ability to safely navigate landfill grounds and work around heavy equipment and vehicle traffic.
• Work schedule consists of on-call, part-time hours throughout the year, including Saturdays as needed to provide Scale Clerk coverage.
