Nurse Practitioner Job Description
Location: Charleston, WV, 25301
The Kanawha County Health and Wellness Center, located at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, has a rare opportunity for a per diem Nurse Practitioner. The Center is open to all Kanawha County employees and family members. The medical staff provides urgent care to ages 2 and up, and primary care to those 16 and up. The Nurse Practitioner will diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team within the Health and Wellness Center. The NP will provide primary care, including women's health exams. The NP will help employees to focus on health promotion and disease prevention. The NP may order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and X rays, as well as prescribe medication.
Primary Duties:
- Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
- Provide primary care to patients age 16 .
- Diagnose or treat acute health care problems, such as illnesses, infections, or injuries.
- Perform women’s health exams including breast exams and pap tests.
- Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses.
- Prescribe medication.
- Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests.
- Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses.
- Diagnose or treat chronic health care problems.
- Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability.
- Perform primary care procedures such as suturing, splinting, administering immunizations, taking cultures, and debriding wounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Certified Nurse Practitioner
- West Virginia Certified Registered Professional Nurse
- DEA Registration
