POSITION SUMMARY
Kanati Land Management is seeking an Agricultural Conservation Planner to support farmers and landowners in implementing conservation agriculture systems. This role blends applied agronomy, conservation planning, and relationship-based consulting. Depending on landowner needs, this position may serve as a crop consultant, conservation advisor, or strategic planner.
This position is ideal for someone who understands production agriculture and is motivated to help landowners improve both profitability and environmental outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Landowner & Producer Support
- Build trusted relationships with farmers and rural landowners
- Evaluate soils, cropping systems, and management history
- Develop practical and feasible whole farm plans for agricultural producers with conservation, profitability and soil health as the focus
Agronomy & Conservation Planning
- Provide guidance on cover crops, reduced tillage, nutrient management, crop rotations, grazing, and other conservation practices
- Prepare and review whole-farm conservation plans, reports, and recommendations
- Use GIS, soil data, and field observations to support decisions
Programs & Partnerships
- Assist with enrollment in programs such as EQIP, CSP, MAWQCP, and emerging ecosystem service markets
- Coordinate with SWCDs, NRCS, watershed districts, nonprofits, farm groups, and agencies
- Serve as a connector between public and private conservation efforts
Outreach & Education
- Provide support for field days, workshops, and producer meetings
- Communicate conservation concepts in a clear, practical, and landowner-focused way
Other
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience working with agricultural producers or landowners
- Knowledge of conservation agriculture and soil health systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, ArcGIS with the ability to learn new software
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Minnesota
Preferred
- Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) or interest in obtaining certification
- Experience with NRCS, SWCD, or conservation program delivery
- Familiarity with Minnesota agricultural systems and conservation programs
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Combination of office, field, and remote work
- Seasonal fieldwork in varied weather conditions
- Occasional evenings or weekends for meetings and events
