We are searching for a dynamic and motivated Inspector IV to join our team at our Bloomfield, Connecticut location. First shift hours are 6:00am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday, as business needs currently require one hour of mandatory daily overtime.

Position Summary:

Perform basic inspection activities of product, materials, first piece inspection and in-process monitoring as assigned. Report to Value Stream Manager/Sr. Team Leader on work assignments to meet production schedules. Report to Quality Assurance Supervisor regarding quality issues. Assign tasks to inspectors to ensure that production schedules are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspection of various mechanical components and assemblies to close tolerance. Perform first piece and in-process inspection in assigned value stream.
  • Identify defects in surface, dimensional, visual and non-conformities (material, documentation and workmanship) to blueprints and Kamatics' quality standards. Report non-conformance of materials or unusual conditions to Quality Supervisor and cell leader.
  • Demonstrate mastery using the following basic inspection devices to verify drawing specifications: caliper, micrometer, dial bores, chamfer gage, profilometer.
  • Demonstrate mastery using the following advanced inspection device(s) to verify drawing specifications: optical comparator, sunnen gage, trimos height stand.
  • Demonstrate proficiency using the following specialty inspection devices to verify drawing specifications: Johnson tri-roll, sin plate, torque gage.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the following specialty inspection devices: swing gage, contracer, digital comparator, cadillac gage, Keyence IM.
  • Demonstrate mastery in measuring the following GD&T items: roundness, parallelism, concentricity, runout, perpendicularity, flatness, total runout.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in measuring the following GD&T items: true position, material modifiers.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the following GD&T items: profile.
  • Demonstrate mastery with CMM operation to inspect product. Able to calibrate probes as necessary.
  • Using knowledge of inspection equipment and blue print reading, provide feedback and insight on appropriate and accurate gaging methods according to the blue print requirements.

  • Perform all responsibilities within productivity and quality expectations. Follow work procedures. Maintain records, data and logs as necessary. Create inspection forms such as IMS, first article and other related forms.
  • Navigate computer files and software to acquire necessary items for inspection, verification, etc. Use software such as Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets to present data.
  • Provide leadership/training as needed. Ensure that production schedules are met.
  • May include preparing products and related paperwork for presentation to customer or source inspection as a Designated Supplier Quality Representative for customers as well as interact with customers at source inspection when required.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment. Follow safety and environmental procedures and regulations. Report safety incidents to supervisor.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to work processes and procedures. Contribute to 5S programs in work area.
  • Provide a high level of service to all internal and external customers. Contribute to positive teamwork environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in training/learning other positions. Accomplish related results as needed.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years inspection experience in a manufacturing environment or demonstrated equivalent experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of measuring devises, gages, and testing instruments.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to notice small discrepancies, defects or compliance issues.
  • Ability to prepare inspection reports, compliance certifications and audit-ready records with precision.
  • Ability to analyze inspection results and compare them against standards or specifications and provide corrective/preventative solutions as needed.
  • Strong understanding of advanced shop mathematics.
  • Expert ability to read technical drawings, op sheets and blueprints with Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerance
  • Strong Statistical Process Control knowledge
  • Strong in CMM Operations and Programming
  • Strong PC computer skills, with ability to use Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and an ERP system.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent mental and visual attention
  • Occasional (15-40%) lifting and moving materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent walking and standing

Other:

  • Will be required to work overtime and weekends to meet customer needs
  • Ability to work flexible work schedule
