Summary:
KAM Consultants is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Entry-Level Laboratory Technician with a strong academic foundation in chemistry to join our growing environmental laboratory team. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about applying scientific principles to real-world environmental health and safety work.
As part of our laboratory operations, you will assist in the preparation, processing, and analysis of environmental samples—particularly those related to asbestos and lead testing. Your chemistry background will be essential in executing precise analytical techniques, maintaining data integrity, and supporting quality control procedures. You will work closely with experienced analysts and the Laboratory Manager to uphold rigorous standards in laboratory practices and documentation.
Experience working with asbestos and/or lead samples is highly encouraged, and familiarity with related testing protocols (e.g., PLM, PCM, XRF) is a plus.
This is a hands-on, in-person role based in our Long Island City laboratory, offering exposure to a fast-paced, collaborative environment and the opportunity to grow within the environmental science field.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be instrumental in conducting laboratory analyses, preparing samples, and maintaining laboratory equipment. You will handle specimen processing, perform analytical testing, and ensure proper documentation of results. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our laboratory analysts and project managers to maintain quality control standards and contribute to efficient laboratory operations. Your attention to detail and technical expertise will be crucial as you contribute to the accuracy and reliability of our testing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory analyses following established protocols and procedures
- Prepare and process samples in various matrices (air, dust, bulk, etc.) for asbestos analysis
- Perform analysis of PCM air samples as needed
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration
- Document and record test results with precision and accuracy
- Generate reports for completed laboratory work
- Manage electronic data entry and retrieval from laboratory equipment
- Ensure timely communication through daily updates
- Maintain organized laboratory records and documentation
- Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory and supplies
- Perform data entry of daily QA/QC results and prepare QA/QC monthly reports
- Function effectively in laboratory environment while following safety protocols
Qualifications:
- (Required) Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.
- Previous experience in laboratory work is required.
- Ability to interpret and type laboratory/field reports accurately.
- Availability to work a full-time schedule, including weekends as needed.
- In person job at our Long Island City office location.
