The Respiratory Therapist (RT) is responsible for evaluating, treating, and monitoring residents with cardiopulmonary conditions in a skilled nursing and post-acute rehabilitation setting. The RT works collaboratively with nursing, therapy, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, effective respiratory care that promotes optimal recovery, comfort, and quality of life.

This role supports ventilator management (if applicable), oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, pulmonary hygiene, education, and compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulatory standards.

Clinical Care

  • Perform respiratory assessments and develop individualized treatment plans based on physician orders and resident needs.

  • Administer respiratory therapies including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, nebulizers, inhalers, chest physiotherapy, suctioning, and airway clearance techniques.

  • Monitor and manage respiratory equipment including oxygen concentrators, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilators (if applicable), pulse oximeters, and emergency equipment.

  • Respond promptly to respiratory distress and medical emergencies.

  • Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, lung sounds, and clinical response to treatments.

  • Document assessments, treatments, and resident responses accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Care Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, rehab therapy, and case management to support resident goals and discharge planning.

  • Communicate changes in resident condition promptly to the clinical team.

  • Participate in care conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as requested.

  • Provide resident and family education on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and safety.

Compliance & Safety

  • Maintain compliance with all CMS, Washington State Department of Health, infection control, and facility policies.

  • Ensure proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage of respiratory equipment.

  • Follow OSHA and universal precautions standards.

  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and emergency preparedness activities.

Professional Practice

  • Maintain current licensure and required continuing education.

  • Stay up to date on best practices in respiratory care and post-acute rehabilitation.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and customer service excellence.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Current Washington State Respiratory Care Practitioner License.

  • Credentialed as CRT or RRT through NBRC.

  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred if applicable).

  • Knowledge of respiratory modalities, oxygen delivery systems, and pulmonary assessment.

  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, post-acute rehab, LTACH, or hospital setting.

  • Experience with ventilator management and tracheostomy care (if applicable).

  • Familiarity with EMR systems.

  • Strong patient education and customer service skills.

Salary : $45 - $55
