The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) is a critical part of Michigan’s education system serving the Greater Kalamazoo region and provides specialized services to schools and communities and optimizes resources by centralizing innovative programs and services. We are currently seeking a Head Start Site Supervisor at KRESA Head Start in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. The essential responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Align services with KRESA Core Values (Collaboration, Innovation, Compassion, Respect, and Integrity) and Culture & Belonging principles to engage and serve all students
- Support and ensure the effective implementation of education services for students, families, and staff
- Work with Instructional Leadership Team to develop, conduct, and coordinate professional development and training, as needed
- Coach and support teaching staff in implementing curriculum with fidelity to ensure teachers:
- Create engaging lessons that are based on the Early Learning Outcomes Framework and Teaching Strategies Gold Objectives
- Provide a print rich environment in which children develop literacy, numeracy and social skills using increasingly complex language and problem-solving abilities
- Frequently asks questions to probe and deepen students’ understanding or a skill or concept, while assisting students to clarify and assess their thinking through various structures and scaffolds
- Provide instructional materials and tasks that align with the purpose of study and align with students’ level of challenge
- Provide children with consistent, clear classroom routines, procedures, and expectations
- Implement daily observations and anecdotal record keeping for ongoing assessment of students’ development and progress
- Integrate Individualized Education Plan (IEPs) for children with disabilities, consult with and refer teachers to Special Education staff for specific interventions and strategies
- Understand and interpret children’s outcome data to establish appropriate individualized goals based on knowledge of child development
- Complete developmental screening on each child within 45 days of enrollment, and all other assessments and screeners in a timely manner
- Participate in team meetings, home visits, and community events as needed
- Ensure parents are involved and engaged with their child’s education through regular communication strategies – home visits, parent teacher conferences, site-based parent meetings, and Policy Council
- Assist teaching staff in developing a system offering opportunities for families to volunteer, extend their child’s learning outside of school, and increase their knowledge of developmentally appropriate milestones
- Facilitate regular team meetings with staff to build a community of care, provide important information and training
- Participate in the Family Service Team process to ensure service coordination across the program
- Ensure teachers send home a regular, ongoing classroom newsletter
- Attend local, state, and regional initiatives to represent the program and to develop professionally
- Work closely with MTSS Specialist, families, and other key staff to support the identification, referral, and evaluation of children with suspected disabilities
- Communicate effectively in written or verbal format to groups of all sizes and individuals
- Actively participate in Head Start community, including staff meetings, mandated trainings, committee meetings, and other program-wide functions as needed, including some evening activities
- Assist program staff with maintaining the filing, tracking and documentation systems while ensuring confidentiality of child and family records
- Ensure that child and classroom data are maintained for individual and program planning
- Ensure teachers understand, generate and document in-kind contributions from parents and others and other allowable costs applied toward the non-federal share requirement
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and State Licensing regulations for childcare centers
- Ensure the program meets the goals as outlined in the School Readiness, Parent, Family & Community Engagement Plan
- Participate in the annual self-assessment and program improvement plan
- Provide ongoing coaching to teaching staff on goals as identified through the CLASS Observation Tool, performance evaluation, and/or student outcome data
- Conduct regular observations to provide feedback in all areas of educational quality – classroom environment and materials, daily structure and routines, classroom management, implementation of curriculum, instructional practices, support for ELL, etc
- Submit performance evaluations for associate teachers and classroom aides in a timely manner – 90 day and/or annually
- Know the personnel policies and procedures and ensure that staff are aware of these and any changes to them that occur
- Assign and review work of the staff you supervise. Coach, train, and work effectively with staff from a variety of backgrounds and with differing levels/areas of training
- Model best practices within the service area
- Devise work methods and procedures that support improvements in existing work practices, supporting staff in developing and setting goals, priorities and timelines
- Lead with KRESA’s Core Values and the program’s community agreement when interacting with others and as framework to make decisions.
- Make decisions that support program quality while maintaining program accountability and integrity
- Promote consistent exchange of information to help staff feel in on the happenings within the program and organization
- Attend parent committees, Policy Council and board of director meetings as needed or requested
- Ensures that facilities, materials, and equipment are safe, appropriate, and conducive to learning and reflective of the different ages and stage of development of each child, including children with disabilities, and culturally responsive
- Ensures arrangements and space, as well as types and use of materials and equipment, match identified curriculum and needs of the children
- Conduct and/or supervise daily, weekly, monthly, or annual safety checks of assigned classrooms and facilities
- Other duties as assigned
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or related area. 5 years leadership experience in Early Childhood plus related training. Master's in Early Childhood, Education, Leadership, or a related area is preferred.

This is a 10-month calendar position in job grade 17e with an annual rate of pay between $47,220 and $58,330.
