Kalamazoo Innovative Learning Program (KILP High School)
$16.63 per hour
Scope of Responsibilities
Provides motivation and hands-on academic support for students who are under-credited or off-pace
with the goal of meeting all KPS graduation requirements.
- Works with teachers to manage academic student participation and upholding program rules and
goals.
- Is accountable to the program administrator for performing all duties as assigned.
- Operates with general direction from the classroom teacher(s) and functions as an integral part
of the KILP team.
- Supports the instructional team and school administrator in decisions regarding the school. Works
with students to motivate them toward success. Refers to the program administrator for matters
beyond the designated scope of responsibility of the position.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Administrative
a. Implements all policies and procedures outlined in KPS issued manuals in a manner consistent
with the educational goals and philosophy of Kalamazoo Public Schools.
b. Participates in activities within the program at various levels, with particular attention to
documentation and attendance.
2. Learning Environment
a. Assists the classroom teacher in maintaining the goals and objectives of the KILP team.
b. Enriches the learning environment with positivity, cultivating strong relationships with
students and the KILP High School team.
c. Provides individual and small group academic support to students, especially in mathematics.
3. Student
a. Ensures that students are meeting the program expectations.
b. Assists teachers with attendance - two-way interactions (TWI’s) for all students.
c. Reaches out to absent students to encourage a strong attendance routine.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalency and one of the following Every Student Succeeds
Act (ESSA) qualifications:
a. completion of 60 credit hours at a college or university;
b. an associate's degree or higher
c passing scores in math, reading, and writing on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment prior to June 1,
2017, or the Basic Skills Test of the Michigan Teacher Test for Certification
d. passing score of at least 460 on the ETS (Education Testing Service) Paraprofessional
Assessment.
2. Willing to acquire the knowledge and understanding of the Online Edmentum Courseware Curriculum
and procedures as outlined.
3. Clerical skills for typing and preparation of reports.
4. Positive attendance history and strong work ethic.
5. Prior experience or desire working in an urban district.
