About the Role The Health Officer ensures the health, safety, and wellbeing of campers and staff. You’ll provide first aid, manage medications, maintain accurate medical records, and respond calmly and effectively to injuries or health concerns. You’ll also support counselors and staff with health guidance, train as needed, and help maintain a safe environment across all camp programs. This role is ideal for someone organized, responsible, and self-motivated — with a passion for children, safety, and outdoor adventure. What You’ll Do
- Provide first aid, administer medications, and manage camper and staff health concerns.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential medical records.
- Review incident reports for accuracy and follow up as needed.
- Assist counselors and support staff with health-related issues.
- Support check-in and registration with health screenings and communication with families.
- Respond appropriately in emergencies and maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
- Train and supervise staff in health and safety procedures.
- Step in as needed to support other camp roles to maintain safe, smooth operations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
- Must be 21 years or older by the first week of camp.
- Current certification or license (e.g., Wilderness First Responder/Aid, Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/First Aid, Nurse, EMT, Physician, PA, NP, or equivalent).
- Ability to manage health records and implement treatment and safety guidelines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with campers, staff, and families.
- Commitment to KNC’s mission and environmental stewardship.
- Able to work full-time for the camp season and follow all safety procedures.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Nature based camp means walking several miles per day on hilly terrain and rustic trails.
- The work is outdoors in hot, humid Michigan weather.
- Work environment may be loud with active groups of children.
