The KA Coding & Billing Team oversees all stages of claim review, coding, billing, and the follow-up of billing rejections. Medical Coders & Billers review documentation, accurately code and key medical procedures for reimbursement, and regularly interact with members of the Accounts Receivable team. The Medical Billing Supervisor oversees the department and provides regular updates to the Revenue Cycle Manager, prioritizes and assigns work for the Coding & Billing team, manages resources, and resolves escalated issues. This role is full-time, in office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Coding & Billing Team Responsibilities
- Prioritize work for the Coding & Billing team by reviewing and analyzing coding & billing production goals and billing rejections.
- Evaluate team responsibilities and tasks, re-assigning as needed.
- Maintain working knowledge of coding & billing practices and trends and communicate updated standards to team members.
- Maintain working knowledge of coding & billing practices associated with various insurance entities and communicate necessary changes to team members.
- Recommend and implement more efficient billing & coding processes and ensure that processes adhere to current standards.
- Review, problem solve and resolve coding & billing issues escalated by team members.
- Monitor and update coding related aspects of billing software.
- Research and resolve escalated customer coding issues.
- Train and mentor new and current employees on best practices.
- Provide feedback and annual evaluations for Coding & Billing team.
- Provide back-up assistance in all areas as needed.
Other
- Work in collaboration with Revenue Cycle Manager to align departmental practices.
- Provide regular updates on coding and billing metrics.
- Work with the Accounts Receivable supervisor to mitigate any billing issues affecting payment.
- Attend staff meetings and continuing educational sessions.
Additional Duties

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE
Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in relevant field; bachelor’s degree and supervisory experience preferred.
- Current CPC certification or equivalent; CPC & CPB preferred.
- Minimum of three years coding and/or billing experience in a professional medical setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding required.
- Experience interacting with various major health insurance providers.
Skills, Knowledge and other Competencies
- Self-directed individual with ability to organize and prioritize work with strong attention to detail.
- Analytical skills to evaluate reports, prioritize work and communicate to coding & billing team.
- Critical thinking skills to escalate concerns to Manager as needed.
- Ability to make decisions and advise Coding and Billing Specialists.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with team members who have questions and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Must be comfortable with technology and able to manage various processing systems including the billing software.
- Must have working knowledge of Office 365 and strong experience in Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain a positive attitude and possess ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to multi-task, with various interruptions, and meet important deadlines.
- Must maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Perform to company standards of compliance with policies and procedures.
