Position Title: Playground / Cafeteria Monitor (temporary)

Location: Kalama Elementary School, Kalama, Washington

Dates: ASAP - June 12, 2026

Hours: Monday - Friday, 10:25am - 12:25pm daily

Salary: $20.39 - $25.26 per hour DOE

Benefits: This position is not eligible for health or retirement benefits

DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction and supervision of the building principal, the Playground/Cafeteria Monitor performs tasks related to the monitoring and supervising of students on campus during school hours. A desire and ability to work with students is essential in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must complete SafeSchools training within 2 weeks of hire
  • Must pass a background check
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Previous experience working with students preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Maintain safety of students and act as a positive role model.
  • Know and follow health, safety, and emergency procedures of the district.
  • Communicate successfully with staff, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality and minimal absences.
  • Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including the requirements of confidentiality.
  • Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.

  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Work is predominantly outside. Temperature � normal climate, occasional adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

If you are hired for this position, you will be required to complete a background check, unless you have completed the background check in the past two years, and it is on file with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
