Job Summary:

The Vice President, Care Delivery Technology is a leader within the national program office responsible for ensuring Health Plan quality oversight for applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for clinical operations, research, education and related administrative and managerial aspects of these functional areas. The role will also ensure that all AI applications follow local and federal laws and regulations. This leader will leverage extensive clinical expertise and knowledge of relevant research to identify areas of clinical care that can be improved and/or made more efficient by the application of artificial intelligence and that impact the clinical outcomes for Kaiser Permanente patients and members. The Vice President will create and/or maintain evidence-based practices based in AI and serve as a subject matter, medical expert and advisor for clinical care AI to Quality, Care Delivery, Legal and Regulatory and Enterprise Business Services at KP. The role will design, direct and implement a clinical care AI quality assurance program, a program that will ensure implementation and operations of AI applications across all KP markets are routinely monitored, documented, and issues are escalated appropriately. The Vice President will also work with appropriate Health Plan departments and medical groups to deploy assessments on AI, IT and digital areas/functions and to ensure care providers follow statutory timelines, laws, and regulations. The position will report directly to the Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, Health Plan and Hospitals Quality with a dotted line to the Executive Vice President, Enterprise Business Services to ensure coordination, collaboration and quality assurance in the AI, IT and digital applications.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Promote quality outcomes and oversight for current and future AI technology applications used for clinical care at KP.
  • Provide and promote quality oversight activities that ensure that AI clinical care applications implemented across KP are safe and equitable for KP members.
  • Provide and promote quality assessments and activities that ensure that efficiencies in clinical and operational care are derived from technology applications implemented across KP.
  • Develop, implement and operationalize a KP AI quality governance structure and oversight program in coordination with the Enterprise Business Services, IT, medical groups and national quality teams. Regularly share progress and updates with Health Plan and Hospitals Executive team and the Quality Health Improvement Committee (QHIC) of the Board of Directors.
  • Promote and drive learning and improvement through partnerships with research, care delivery and quality that facilitate implementation and improvement in care delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Increase the speed and agility of our organization, while maintaining our history of practicing evidence-based medical care, harnessing the power of data and technologies, and co-creating care with our patients.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of clinical practice.



Education


  • Professional medical degree (MD).

  • Expertise in research on the use of AI in the clinical setting.

  • Experience working effectively with physicians and health system leaders in the provision of care.

  • The ability to communicate, establish credibility, and work collaboratively with a diverse range of professionals.

  • The ability to organize and mobilize resources toward achievement of goals within a matrix environment.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in senior operational management and/or leadership role in large complex delivery systems, 7 required -10 years of experience preferred
