Primary Purpose

This position is a contracted member of the Medford School District’s (MSD) student services team providing mental health treatment to youth and their families within the school system. Provides comprehensive mental health assessments, treatment plans and interventions within the framework of a multi-faceted treatment approach including, but not limited to, Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and other models/approaches as appropriate to meet the needs of the youth and families. Maintain flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic and progressive environment.

Education and Experience

Must meet Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) classifications, which includes a degree in one of the following:

  • Graduate degree in Psychology
  • Graduate degree in Social Work
  • Graduate degree in Recreational, Art, or Music Therapy; or
  • Graduate degree in a behavioral science field

Additionally, the QMHP’s ability to become licensed within 1 year is preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to conduct an assessment, including identifying precipitating events, gathering histories of mental and physical health, substance abuse, past mental health services and criminal justice contacts, assessing family, cultural, social, and work relationships, conducting a mental status examination, complete a DSM diagnosis, write and supervise the implementation of a Service Plan, and provide individual, family or group therapy within the scope of their training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Provide proof of current, valid Oregon Driver’s License (or if out-of-state will obtain Oregon license within 30 days), comprehensive automobile insurance (if applicable) and a safe driving record (minimum of 3 yrs.) to use company or personal vehicle for required duties.
  • Successfully pass a Criminal Background Check and Medicaid Fraud Check.
  • Obtain and maintain current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Obtain a Food Handlers Card.
  • Obtain and maintain current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification and demonstrate proficiency in CPI Certification procedures.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Core Competencies

  • Deliver and coordinate psychiatric services for youth and families.
  • Establish rapport by demonstrating and maintaining clear, consistent, appropriate, and therapeutic boundaries.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all applicable Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) as they pertain to assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing documentation of services.
  • Concisely and thoroughly document clinical information. Provide timely, accurate documentation to meet billing requirements. Must adhere to Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) and standards of care. Demonstrate and meet competency standards in using agency’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and be able to efficiently access community resources, support services and referral systems for treatment and discharge planning.
  • Provide treatment and assist in stabilization of youth and young adults using a variety of evidence-based methods including wraparound, strengths-based, and family-centered frameworks.
  • Provide individual, group and family therapy as prescribed in individualized service plan.
  • Formulate and document mental health assessments and service plans based on identified strengths and needs.
  • Maintain communication avenues with essential positions within the school setting regarding youth needs and service plans.
  • Provide clinical leadership guidance to school district staff directly working with youth and families, as well as community partners where appropriate.
  • Actively supervise and interact with youth in an office setting, on the school grounds, and/or via telehealth to maintain safety and provide psychiatric services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of youth development and group dynamics by adjusting therapeutic approaches to developmental level and group interactions.
  • Safely de-escalate youth, including in crisis situations, by effectively using verbal intervention skills.
  • Present a positive attitude, professional demeanor and demonstrated respect for youth and young adults, families, staff, visitors, and community partners.
  • Participate in supervision, accept feedback, and offer feedback to others.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Lead, train, and develop QMHP interns for maximum effectiveness.
  • Performs all supervisory responsibilities for assigned interns, which may include scheduling supervision sessions, assigning training, providing timely and appropriate coaching and support, completing necessary documentation and evaluations by a deadline, and addressing, and/or documenting performance or disciplinary issues.
  • Actively utilize and reference agency policy, procedures, mission, and values.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrate flexibility adapting to program change.
  • Model direct and clear communication skills.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement and assurance activities.
  • Routinely complete or oversee completion of program reports in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of QMHP internships within the school setting.
  • Promote positive relations between MSD team, youth and families, and other Kairos employees through direct communication, cultivation of a culture of authenticity, and implementation of agency policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.

Travel

  • Required to travel between school sites and Kairos programs as needed.

  • Actively utilize, reference, and follow Kairos and MSD policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Perform all work tasks in a proper and safe manner per established policies, procedures, and guidelines to prevent unnecessary injury, time loss and agency expense.
  • Comply with all federal, state and agency health and safety reporting requirements.

Other Duties

  • Perform other related work as assigned.
  • Attend trainings and meetings as assigned.
  • May be appointed to committees.

  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust schedule as necessary to fit program needs and meet the needs of youth and their families.

Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception as well as operating a motor vehicle.
