The Compliance Specialist II role at Kai USA is vital to ensuring adherence to customs and trade standards as well and regulatory laws across our U.S. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement these standards, oversee drawback claims, and provide strategic feedback in customs and foreign trade.  

This role will be onsite in our Tualatin, OR facility, with the possibility of a hybrid work schedule after training.


Essential Responsibilities & Duties Summary:

  • Import transactions, including issuance of clearance instructions, monitoring, record keeping and auditing.
  • Identify and file duty drawback claims and establish record keeping system for this.
  • Reconcile entry discrepancies, submit post-entry adjustments, and protests as required.
  • Research and audit import / export invoices and reconcile discrepancies in accordance with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  • Drive the implementation of new laws and compliance processes through project management, including leading meetings, documenting progress, and addressing questions.
  • Stay current with CBP, USTR, USDA, FDA, FTC, state requirements, and Prop 65 compliance.
  • Interface with customs brokers, suppliers and service providers to ensure consistency with defined import/export processes. Respond to inquiries from customs brokers, government agencies, customers and vendors.
  • Work with internal team members to support and provide guidance on international trade and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide compliance guidance and support for internal team members.
  • Work with international affiliates to ensure import certificates and supporting documentation are in place.
  • Review product descriptions and technical data to determine import classification and record keeping related to import compliance.


Qualifications Requirements:

  • 10-15 years of experience with import/export compliance with an emphasis on duty drawback claims, regulatory compliance and project management.
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience. Especially strong Excel skills including being able to create a V-Lookup.
  • Self-starter, with strong critical and analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated leadership in identifying process inefficiencies and driving the creation and execution of standardized procedures across teams.


Salary Range: $92,000 to $100,000/ year DOE

Work Location: Tualatin, OR
