Lead Instructional Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher, the Instructional Assistant (“IA”) works as part of the classroom team to motivate students diagnosed with autism (ages 3-22) to learn foundational and prerequisite skills utilizing principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. The Instructional Assistant provides assistance to the teacher by implementing small group teaching sessions and conducting individualized instruction, while following lesson plans and recording data. Dependent upon each student’s individual needs, the Instructional Assistant may be required to assist in problem behavior reduction, as well as assisting the students with toileting, feeding, and other self-help skills throughout the day. Requirements of this position are necessary to support optimal student experience through the learning process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides and oversees quality implementation of varied teacher-designed instructional activities to meet the student’s IEP goals/objectives.
· Monitor Instructional Assistant implementation of IEP goals, ensuring all goals are implemented, data are recorded completely and accurately, and progress is made.
· Reports overall student performance and progress on IEP goals and objectives to the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, and Director.
· Implement and monitor Instructional Assistant implementation of behavior support/intervention plans to ensure accuracy.
· Provides training and support to Instructional Assistants to acquire and maintain skills on competency checklists and ensure goals are implemented with high levels of fidelity.
· Assist students in functional skills such as, toileting and mealtime routines.
· Interact with students using positive reinforcement and the least restrictive techniques to manage behavior, as outlined in behavior plans.
· Monitors classroom program and needs to ensure team members are prepared for student lessons (e.g., stimuli, data sheets) and the teaching environment is conducive to learning (e.g., clean, organized, safe).
· Maintains written/oral communication with teacher.
· Attend various school related meetings, trainings, and functions.
· Collaborate with classroom team, parents, and administration team to promote smooth and efficient functioning of all school processes.
· Participate in professional development activities and attend in-service training.
· Assist the Special Education Teacher in lesson plan development and preparation.
· Assist the Special Education Teacher in paperwork administration (e.g., data sheets, lesson plans, graphs, acquisition charts).
· Complete daily, weekly, monthly administrative tasks, including but not limited to student and team member attendance.
· Transport and/or assist with the transportation/transition of students between pickup points and field trips/school outings.
· Be available for transportation of students when necessary for AM/PM routes
· Arrive on time to ensure consistent and high-quality services.
· Follow all Company policies and procedures, as outlined in Team Member Handbook and other written documents.
· Perform other duties, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
· At least two years’ experience working with individuals with autism and/or special needs, preferred
· Bachelor’s degree or sufficient college credits to obtain Emergency Credential from an accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines: behavior analysis, psychology, education, or related field, preferred
· The equivalent of two years of college coursework at an accredited college or university, with a concentration in behavior analysis, psychology, education, or related field (education and listed fields of study preferred)
· Holds a valid Emergency Teaching Credential from CCTC within 3 months of hire, preferred
