Job Summary
This full-time Medical Assistant position supports KBFPC’s medical providers and is responsible for providing high-quality care that represents KBFPC’s mission, core purpose, and values: client-centered and evidence-based preventive, and sexual & reproductive health services, education, and counseling in accordance with KBFPC clinical protocols, program guidelines, and national standards of practice. Provides trauma-informed care that is respectful of cultural and sexual diversity and recognizes the client as a full partner in decision making, ensuring confidentiality, mutual trust, and respect.
Essential Functions:
Intake and Recordkeeping for Clinician Appointments
- Conduct client intake: take client vitals, review client questionnaire responses, and document their basic health information prior to seeing the provider.
- Assess client support networks, offer resources for health and social services, relationship safety, sexual assault, and substance use.
- Set up supplies and equipment and assist clinicians during procedures when needed.
- Prepare, clean, and maintain exam rooms.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Services
- Provide sexual health assessment, including reproductive goals and pregnancy intention.
- Perform testing for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including venipuncture (training available for the right candidate).
- In limited circumstances, such as when RN or provider is unavailable: deliver limited STI treatment, per clinical protocol or per medical provider’s order, and arrange for partner services.
- Dispense contraceptive supplies for clients with current prescription.
- Dispense emergency contraception per clinical protocol or per medical provider’s order.
Care Coordination
- Document all encounters and services in client records using Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Complete and submit documentation of test results and follow up with service providers and payors.
- Confirm and track breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services.
- Support tracking of necessary client follow-up care and imaging results in collaboration with medical providers and RN.
- Communicate with clients regarding appointments, refills, and referrals using Patient Portal or follow-up calls as necessary.
- In collaboration with RN, manage referrals with other offices to ensure clients receive timely care.
- Contribute to efficient EHR workflow in collaboration with all Clinic staff and external partners (Kenai Peninsula Billing Agency, Health Information Exchange, Alaska Breast and Cervical program, lab agencies, EHR representatives).
Lab and Facility Maintenance
- Collect and process lab samples for in-house and outside laboratory testing.
- Prepare, clean, and sterilize medical instruments, and laboratory equipment.
- Support medical and facility supply procurement, receiving, and inventory.
- Other facility maintenance and routine cleaning when needed or as directed.
Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement
- Participate in routine clinical and administrative Quality Assurance activities, including medical records review and direct observation.
- Assist with Quality Improvement efforts and implementation of new clinic initiatives, in collaboration with the Medical Director and Clinic staff.
