About the Role: The United States Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Wisconsin (USAO-WIW), along with its law enforcement partners, conducts federal investigations and prosecutions in multiple areas, including civil rights violations, financial crimes, health care fraud, internet crimes, narcotics and money laundering, crimes against children, and violent crimes What you will do: Manage intake and organization of documents and electronic information (in a wide variety of formats) obtained in connection with complex investigations. Note deficiencies in case materials, e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements, and request further investigation by personnel to correct deficiencies. Process documents/information (e.g., redact and Bates number) with existing United States Department of Justice tools Analyze investigative materials using existing United States Department of Justice tools and resources and prepare and log discovery. Prepare a variety of discovery-related documents, process documents upon receipt, and perform necessary follow-up. Prepare Grand Jury and trial exhibits in coordination with Automated Litigation Support (ALS) personnel using PowerPoint, Keynote, and/or Trial Director or similar trial presentation software. Prepare subpoenas for trials, hearings, and Grand Jury and assist in managing witnesses for each of those proceedings. Research, analyze, and summarize relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases. Maintain regular contact with the applicable agency contacts to ensure provision of complete and timely cooperation in all aspects of assigned cases. Monitor pending case progress and initiate action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines. Keep appropriate staff members informed about the status of cases with the most current information. Assignments vary based on the case and tasks that are performed in close collaboration with the case attorneys and other government personnel. The paralegal may also perform a variety of administrative duties both in support of Assistant United States Attorney’s (AUSAs) and the mission of the USAO. Minimum Qualifications & Skills: A minimum of a paralegal degree or certificate or at least two years of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience desired, but not required. Attention to detail and the ability to read and follow directions. Good oral and written communications skills. Ability to pass a minimum background investigation including financials.
