Job Summary:
The QA Supervisor is to serve as the technical resource and shift leader to hourly QA personnel. This position reports directly to the QA Manager or QA Director. The critical technical functions of the position are to develop, implement, maintain, provide training on, and ensure the effectiveness of plant food safety and QA functions. The QA Supervisor will assist in the identification and implementation of quality improvements, plant sanitary design, compliance with food safety, and regulatory standards.
Essential Functions:
· Communicates and trains personnel on new directives, policies, or procedures to QA staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.
· Identifies quality defects and food safety issues and other problems, particularly when problems re-occur in multiple products; recommends solutions to these issues.
· Enhance the Food Safety Culture and ensure plant personnel comply with all SQF standards, USDA, GDA, and FDA requirements.
· Monitors and oversee the plant's environmental monitoring program, identify trends, and recommend action to mitigate quality and food safety risks.
· Track quality data, identify trends, inform/educate stakeholders, and drive action to ensure product quality remains at optimal levels.
· Work with both internal and external resources to ensure product formulas, processing instructions, or specifications are adjusted, as necessary.
· Ensures product traceability measures remain intact and challenge the plant's traceability capabilities with the appropriate frequency.
· Address customer and consumers' complaints and requests from other stakeholders (Sales, R&D, etc.) with timely and accurate information. Active participation in the investigation process.
· Work rotating schedule (as needed) to ensure the operation of the plant and department.
· Identifies and communicates root cause, preventative, and corrective actions to quality and food safety failures. Generate reports and follow-up on corrective actions through completion.
· Assist in maintaining QA Programs (Pest Control, Sample Shipments, Hold Program and Microbiological Testing).
· Assist Director, QA on special projects and act as liaison in their absence.
· Organizes, communicates, and perform SQF internal audits, verification audits and others.
· Directly supervises employees in the Quality Assurance Department maximizing resources, ensuring workload is balanced. Look for opportunities to cross-train and overlap roles to help reduce overtime.
· Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
· Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
· Perform validation and verification activities for pre-requisite programs including completing a report
· Schedules, maintains, and ensure all audits, verification, and reviews are completed as per the established frequency and schedule.
· Conducts daily walks in the different production and warehouse locations; identify opportunities to improve, take time to coach/mentor others.
· Submit work orders for deficiencies notes, follow-up on the corrections and update the respective audit and/or file.
· Assists production and other department as needed to help resolve quality and food safety opportunities.
· Spend 50 % of the time monitoring, assisting, and conducting activities on the production floor to drive changes and enforcement.
· Learn the equipment, processes, and products to have a good understanding of the business applying the learnings to drive teamwork, changes, and quality.
· Ensure QA equipment is properly inventoried, maintained, calibrated and in good working order.
· Maintains a safe level of supplies, chemicals, reagents, swabs, for the QA department anticipating shortages and taking immediate action for replenishment.
· Learn the Freashability systems including templates, features, editing, and daily use. Able to open and use any of the templates, train others, and able to perform verifications and direct observations using the system and the tablets.
· Develop a way to perform audits of usage of Freshability tablets, taking actions when deviations are reported.
· Undertake the responsibilities of a HACCP Plan Team Leader and Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) as outlined in the USDA, and FDA regulation.
· Manage relationships with intra-and-inter-departmental colleagues and suppliers to ensure achievement of departmental and companywide goals and food safety and quality objectives.
· Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment in proper operating condition and if necessary, calibration.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year accredited college or university; or four to six years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· HACCP trained and certified; PCQI trained or certified.
· GFSI platforms experience
· Experience representing a manufacturing facility during GFSI, FDA/USDA, SQF, and other 3rd party and regulatory audits.
· 2 year experience as a Quality Assurance supervisory capacity.
· 3 years' supervisor experience in manufacturing.
Preferred Skills:
· 5 years' experience working in quality Assurance in food manufacturing.

Working Conditions:
· Cold temperature-controlled environment, exposure to elements when outside the plant and offices.

Physical Requirements:
· Able to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds unassisted.
· Frequently exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; extreme cold and risk of electrical shock.
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. s.
