What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Interior Designer position at Kaage Homes?
Kaage Homes is looking for an experienced Senior Interior Designer to join our growing design-build firm in Winnetka.
We specialize in luxury residential design, historic renovations, custom homes, and highly detailed interiors. Our work goes far beyond selecting finishes and furnishings. We design homes from the inside out, including architectural plans, interior elevations, custom millwork, kitchens, baths, built-ins, lighting, materials, furniture, and the thousands of details that make a home feel considered and complete.
We are looking for someone who has already been doing this work at a high level.
The Role
You will work closely with our design and construction teams to take residential projects from concept through documentation, selections, procurement, and installation.
Depending on the project, your work may include:
- Developing interior architectural concepts and space plans
- Producing detailed floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and interior elevations
- Designing custom cabinetry, millwork, built-ins, kitchens, baths, fireplaces, and architectural details
- Creating detailed drawing sets for contractors, fabricators, and trades
- Selecting and specifying plumbing, lighting, hardware, stone, tile, flooring, wallcoverings, paint, and other finish materials
- Designing and specifying custom furniture and furnishings
- Developing presentations, material palettes, and design concepts
- Coordinating directly with architects, builders, fabricators, vendors, and trades
- Reviewing shop drawings and samples
- Participating in site meetings and field verification
- Helping carry a project from its earliest design decisions all the way through installation
Our designers are deeply involved in the entire house. This is not a role focused solely on decoration, sourcing, or styling.
Who We're Looking For:
You will love it here if you have:
- 5 years of professional interior design experience
- Significant experience working for a high-end or luxury residential interior design or architecture firm
- A strong portfolio of sophisticated residential work
- Excellent technical drawing and documentation skills
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD
- Strong proficiency in SketchUp/Enscape
- Experience designing custom millwork, cabinetry, and architectural details
- A strong understanding of residential construction and how design decisions translate into the field
- Experience producing complete interior elevation and construction-document packages
- Excellent knowledge of materials, finishes, furnishings, and the luxury residential market
- The ability to communicate clearly with clients, trades, vendors, and teammates
- Exceptional attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple sophisticated projects simultaneously
Experience working on historic homes, major renovations, or ground-up custom residences is especially valuable to us.
