Job Title: Grind Operator
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Summary: This position ensures the highest quality food standards and personal safety as a grinder. Inspects raw material entering the grinder, and processed grind coming out of the grinder. Remain alert for potential product defects. Ensure grind plates being utilized match the product specifications being ground. Maintain solid knowledge of how the machinery works to ensure that it remains functional. Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and repairs. Use problem-solving skills to control lost time due to machinery malfunctions. Support all for food safety, quality assurance, and product standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensures proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) and procedures are followed to safeguard workers from the release of hazardous energy. Is an Authorized Employee who locks out and tags out equipment for cleaning, repairing, servicing, setting-up, adjusting, or unjamming operations. Understand job hazards and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the safe usage of the specific Hazardous Energy Control
Procedures for the equipment.
• Inspect machinery to ensure that they remain compliant with specifications to reduce any malfunctions and associated loss of production. Stop any machines upon discovery of a problem and make the required adjustments as quickly as possible to minimize downtime. Keep all equipment running by inspecting grind plates, and performing basic maintenance, including scheduling needed repairs.
• Identifies specified meat and grind product specifications to ensure company and customer specifications and volumes are properly obtained. Minimizes waste by following production sheets, watching codes and dates, and ensuring FIFO raw material rotation is done correctly.
• Ensures the quality and freshness of all raw material being ground. Monitors availability of needed raw material inventory levels, and coordinates with appropriate management staff. Ensures all company standards for safety, sanitation and productivity are maintained. Performs all scheduled grinder checks to ensure compliance with both operational and HACCP guidelines. Accurately fills out Foods Safety and Quality paperwork. Maintains required production paperwork. Ensures the work area is clean and meets the company standards.
• Moves or lifts heavy objects (team lifts as appropriate), loading, unloading, or stacking products or materials, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Assists as needed to ensure the success of the grind department as a whole. Routinely communicates with coworkers, quality assurance, maintenance, and management to ensure the highest quality products are made in the safest possible manner.
• Supports and complies with all policies and procedures that ensure food safety, including cleanliness and housekeeping in all work areas. This includes responsibility for Safe Quality Food (SQF) for BRC compliance, HACCP, CCP tasks, sanitation, and all support program implementation.

Education/Experience:
• High School or GED required, with two years manufacturing equipment experience in commercial food operations, preferably in a protein-related industry or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as letters, memoranda, invoices, policies, and other documentation.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, and to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Sufficient mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals accurately. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage correctly. Ability to lead problem solving and troubleshooting efforts associated with operational-level process issues.
• Must be able to stand a minimum of eight hours and continuously lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. May help lift up to 80 lbs. with assistance.
