The Pre-press Specialist is responsible for preparing digital files for print production, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality across all printed materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of printing processes, color management, and pre-press software.
Essential JOB DUTIES
- Review and prepare digital files for offset, digital, and large format printing.
- Perform pre-flight checks to ensure files meet printer specifications.
- Adjust layouts, colors and resolution as needed to optimize print quality.
- Ensure the availability and proper staging of materials (ink, tooling, plates, etc.) prior to production.
- Collaborate with designers, clients, and production teams to resolve file issues.
- Operate and maintain pre-press equipment and software.
- Maintain file organization and archiving systems.
- Create proofs and mockups for client approval.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of work area.
- Participate as a member of the Safety Committee to promote and maintain workplace safety.
- Make continuous improvement in the execution of all tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS

- MUST have ROBUST sheetfed printing and color control experience, preferably in folding cartons.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and timely with all levels in the organization. (Bilingual English/Spanish a plus).
- Outstanding problem solving, attention to detail, time management, interpersonal and customer service skills a must.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat).
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge applicable to the job (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Power-Point, Internet, e-mail), as well as proficiency in the use of in-house programs and applications.
- Basic understanding of ArtPro and Artios CAD programs.
- Understanding of CMYK, RGB, Pantone and other color systems.
- Effective telephone etiquette skills/techniques.
- Proficient math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and all units of measure).
- Strong knowledge of production methods, systems, and continuous-improvement processes.
- Ability to adapt effectively to workplace changes and new job duties/responsibilities.
The appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are achievable through the following combination of education, work experience, and training:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design or print manufacturing.
- Three (3) or more years of work experience in Printing.
- Experience with variable data printing (VDR).
- Familiarity with web-to-print platforms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK CONDITIONS
The essential functions of this job require the employee to perform the following physical activities during work:
- Required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time during the work shift.
- Required to regularly stoop, bend, kneel, lift, and reach, in the performance of this role.
- Required the use of hands, speech and hearing, and use of feet to operate machinery/equipment; Agility to operate and frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Lifting requirements: 25-35 lbs.; and the ability to move/push up to 25 lbs.
- The noise level in this work environment may be moderate to high.
- Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, outside weather conditions.
- PPE requirements: Regular use of safety glasses, standard ear plugs, masks, safety shoes, and gloves.
