Position Summary

Responsible for advising the Union Program Council (UPC), a recognized student organization sponsored by the K-State Student Union. This includes coordinating, promoting, and executing Student Programs and Involvement's (SPI) initiatives, activities, and events to enhance student involvement and success.


Pay: $42,216-$46,437.60/year


This is a full time, hourly position


Role Description

  • Serve as an advisor to the Union Program Council (UPC), a recognized student organization sponsored by the K-State Student Union which is responsible for planning and executing a wide range of events for the K-State student body.
  • Advise assigned UPC committees and positions and attend meetings and events.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and administrative support to student leaders.
  • Support UPC’s strategic planning, leadership development, and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure alignment with institutional policies and best practices.
  • Serve as a resource and partner to students and the campus community.
  • Develop, coordinate, promote, execute, and evaluate programs in coordination with student organization committees.
  • Anticipate, plan, and troubleshoot program safety and security scenarios.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination with community stakeholders and vendors.
  • Assist with committee budget development.
  • Serve as a procurement officer for organizational and departmental purchases.
  • Monitor and ensure spending is within financial parameters.
  • Understand, review, and negotiate contract terms with vendors, entertainers, venues, and the like.
  • Supervise assigned graduate assistant(s) and student employee position(s).
  • Support Student Programs and Involvement’s initiatives, including Week of Welcome, as well the department’s student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Manage 40 hr/week work schedule to balance long and non-traditional working hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education – Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and six or more months of demonstrated experience in student leadership, student organizations, hospitality management, or event planning; or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

Education – Preferred

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, hospitality management, or related field from an accredited institution.

Experience – Minimum Demonstrated

  • Advising or working with students from a variety of social and economic backgrounds;
  • Developing student leaders
  • Budgeting and/or financial management;
  • Planning and executing events;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Experience – Preferred Demonstrated

  • Work or volunteer experience in student affairs in higher education
  • Advising student organizations
  • Creating and managing budgets, overseeing fiscal operations
  • Experience in public relations, marketing, and/or event planning, particularly in student activities.
  • Supervisory experience.


Skills and Abilities

Work in a general office environment and event venues, to include outdoor settings. Remain seated/stand 40% of shift. Finger dexterity/movement for typing, picking up small objects and utilizing varying equipment. Hearing for average or normal conversations and to receive information. Sight to view computer, documents, and general office machinery. Verbal and written communication to present, convey and exchange information and ideas accurately and quickly. Move, transport and position equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. There are no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical conditions. Valid driver’s license.
