POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Shelter Manager works collaboratively with the Executive Director, Shelter Manager, Medical Coordinator, Shelter Cook, Maintenance Staff, and Direct Care Staff to ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for youth residents. This position is responsible for day-to-day operational oversight, staff coordination, and compliance with K’STAR policies, procedures, and all applicable laws and licensing standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative & Operational Management
- Assist Shelter Manager to develop and distribute weekly staff schedules and staffing ratio charts
- Help Coordinate required training sessions and staff meetings for shelter personnel
- Practice TBRI
- Review the daily communication log and monitor security cameras as needed
- Maintain accurate, organized records and documentation
- Assist with Intakes
Staff Supervision & Support
- Direct and coordinate daily staff responsibilities and assignments
- Assist the Shelter Manager with staff performance evaluations and disciplinary actions
- Provide childcare coverage as needed to maintain appropriate staffing ratios
- Serve as on-call manager for shelter emergencies and urgent issues
Resident Services & Care
- Work with the Executive Director and Shelter Manager to arrange appropriate shelter placements
- Assist Donations Coordinator to ensure residents’ clothing and basic needs are adequately met
- Collaborate with case workers, CASA volunteers, attorneys, and other professionals on behalf of residents
- Provide structure, consistency, and nurturing interactions with youth in care
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in cross-training opportunities
- Transport clients as needed
- Contribute to special projects as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager and Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain one)
- Ability to pass background checks as required by licensing standards
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Demonstrated ability to work with youth in a residential or shelter setting
Preferred
- Experience in childcare, youth services, or residential care
- Basic knowledge of Spanish
- Familiarity with child welfare systems and procedures

COMPENSATION
This is a salaried, exempt position requiring 40 or more hours per week with a flexible schedule to meet operational needs.
