HVAC Ductwork Fabricator
Job Summary:
This shop-based role is responsible for cutting, shaping, and assembling sheet metal and other materials to build custom heating, ventilation, and air conditioning ducts and accessories for new construction, construction renovation, and residential projects. This role requires technical expertise and the ability to work collaboratively with other construction professionals to ensure that all systems are installed efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical plans, and specifications to determine how to most efficiently build each piece.
- Use heavy shop tools such as shears, brakes, plasma cutters, and CNC machines, to cut and bend sheet metal.
- Create custom fittings like elbows, transitions, dampers, and offsets.
- Join seams using welds, rivets, bolts, solder, and sealants to make airtight ducts.
- Check finished items for proper dimensions, fit, and build standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, project foremen, and other trades to ensure cohesive and coordinated project execution.
- Comply with safety standards and regulations, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Ensure all installations meet safety and building code requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school certification or apprenticeship in HVAC preferred.
- Proven experience in metal fabrication, preferably HVAC.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong math skills for measuring and layout.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, components, and functionality preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet requirements for a company vehicle.
Skills:
- Technical proficiency in math and metal fabrication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Time management and organizational skills to manage multiple assignments effectively.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in metal fabrication and for HVAC installation and repair.
Physical Demands amp; Cognitive Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds heavy equipment and materials.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and heavy shop machinery.
- Requirement to use personal protective equipment.
