Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to support paint manufacturing equipment planning and project execution at an automotive manufacturing facility in Georgetown, Kentucky.

This position will support equipment projects from initial planning and specification development through installation, inspection, and implementation. The role is approximately 80% office/project work and 20% shop-floor activity, requiring someone who can manage engineering documentation while also being comfortable working directly with manufacturing equipment and contractors in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manufacturing equipment project proposals and assess process and equipment capabilities.
  • Plan and support automation, robotics, conveyor, and paint-line equipment projects.
  • Develop equipment specifications and technical requirements.
  • Support process and equipment layout development.
  • Lead equipment deployment and standardization initiatives across manufacturing facilities.
  • Manage equipment projects, schedules, technical requirements, and implementation activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, inspection documentation, and other technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate on-site equipment inspections and perform quality checks.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop project presentations, reports, and KPI updates.
  • Identify project constraints and develop effective countermeasures.
  • Support equipment lifecycle management, refurbishment, and new vehicle projects.
  • Participate in equipment installation, inspection, commissioning, and other hands-on project activities as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent relevant engineering/technical experience.
  • Experience developing equipment specifications.
  • At least 2 years of project management experience.
  • Experience working with manufacturing equipment and production environments.
  • Ability to identify technical/project constraints and develop solutions.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work on-site and spend time on the manufacturing floor.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in any of the following would be highly desirable:

  • Automotive paint shop equipment
  • Paint booths, ovens, abatement systems, air houses, or enclosures
  • Conveyor systems
  • Industrial robotics and automation
  • Robot programming
  • Equipment maintenance
  • PLCs and industrial controls
  • CAD/AutoCAD or similar modeling software
  • Vision systems
  • Machine Risk Analysis / MSRC
  • New model introduction or equipment launch
  • A3 and/or Ringi documentation for equipment procurement
  • English/Japanese or English/Spanish bilingual capability

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be a hands-on manufacturing/project engineer who has planned, specified, installed, or supported production equipment in an automotive environment. Experience with paint systems, conveyors, robotics, equipment maintenance, or SEIBI would be particularly valuable.

This is not strictly a desk engineering position—the engineer should be comfortable moving between project planning/documentation and the manufacturing floor to inspect equipment, coordinate work, and help ensure projects are executed successfully.
