School Counselor (Preschool–Grade 12)
The School Counselor provides information, support, and guidance to students, parents, and teachers to promote emotional health and overall well-being. This position serves the entire Preschool through Grade 12 community. Our approach is student-centered, offering a variety of services focused on developing coping skills, fostering responsible behavior, and implementing proactive interventions. Essential Job Functions
- Supports the School’s mission, philosophy, and guiding values while adhering to all policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Provides social-emotional counseling for individual students and small groups across all grade levels (Preschool–Grade 12).
- Implements and supports the School’s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program in partnership with teachers and administrators, particularly within the Middle and Upper School divisions.
- Proctors standardized testing for students with accommodations.
- Meets with parents and caregivers to provide resources and guidance for supporting students’ social-emotional well-being.
- Provides crisis intervention and collaborates with administration on student support plans as needed.
- Assists in developing and implementing school-wide prevention and wellness programs.
- Participates in parent programming and workshops as requested by the Assistant Head of School.
- Actively engages in professional development and stays current with best practices in school counseling.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee.
Job Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Guidance, School Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field required.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in school counseling required.
- Experience working with preschool, elementary, middle, and high school students strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students and families.
Certifications and Licenses
- Current licensure or certification in school counseling, school psychology, social work, or a related discipline is required.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting with prolonged periods of sitting.
- Occasional physical activity, including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- May include hours before or after the regular school day for meetings, events, or student support needs.
