Water & Wastewater Field Technician

We are looking for a dependable, safety-focused field technician to support the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems in Topock and Fort Mohave, Arizona.

Position Summary

The Water & Wastewater Field Technician performs hands-on work to support the daily operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems. This role works in the field and at facility sites to check equipment, collect samples, assist with repairs, and help keep systems operating safely and reliably. The technician follows safety procedures, supports compliance requirements, and works closely with operations and maintenance staff.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations & System Checks

· Perform daily field checks of pumps, valves, tanks, meters, lift stations, and related equipment.

· Inspect system performance, identify issues, and report leaks, alarms, or equipment problems.

· Collect water or wastewater samples, assist with testing, and record results.

· Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for site checks, startup, shutdown, and daily tasks.

Regulatory Compliance

· Help follow EPA, state, and local rules for water and wastewater operations.

· Assist with reports, sampling records, and other required documentation.

· Maintain accurate records and support inspections or audits.

· Learn and stay current on industry rules and safety requirements.

Field Support & Teamwork

· Work alongside operators, technicians, and maintenance staff on daily field assignments.

· Respond to service calls, alarms, and equipment issues under the direction of supervisors or lead staff.

· Support safe work practices, traffic control, lockout/tagout, and other required safety procedures.

· Assist during emergency response, repairs, system shutdowns, and maintenance activities.

Maintenance, Repairs & Equipment

· Assist with preventive maintenance and basic repairs on pumps, motors, valves, piping, and control equipment.

· Use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and correctly.

· Help track tools, equipment, materials, and spare parts needed for field work.

Field Documentation

· Complete basic field logs, inspection forms, maintenance records, and daily reports.

· Record chemical use, supply needs, equipment readings, and work completed.

· Report system issues, repair needs, and unusual conditions to supervisors.

· Support accurate documentation needed for compliance and maintenance tracking.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

A high school diploma or GED is required. Coursework or training in water, wastewater, environmental science, utilities, or a related field is helpful but not required. Equivalent education, trade training, or related work experience will also be considered.

· 1–3 years of experience in water, wastewater, utilities, construction, maintenance, or a related field is preferred.

· Entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

Licenses & Certifications

Requirements may be adjusted based on state regulations.

· Water or wastewater operator certification is preferred, but not required at the time of hire if allowed by state regulations.

· Ability to obtain required certifications within a reasonable training period may be required.

· A valid driver’s license is required.

· Additional certifications in collection or distribution systems are a plus.

Knowledge & Skills

· Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, equipment, or utility field work is helpful.

· Ability to perform hands-on work in the field and at facility sites.

· Willingness to learn water and wastewater equipment, sampling procedures, and system operations.

· Ability to follow instructions, safety rules, maps, work orders, and written procedures.

· Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work outdoors in different weather and environmental conditions.

Working Conditions

· Primarily field-based with work at treatment facilities, pump stations, lift stations, and utility sites.

· May require rotating on-call duties, weekend work, emergency response, or after-hours support.

· Exposure to chemicals, mechanical equipment, confined spaces, uneven ground, and outdoor weather conditions.

· Use of PPE is required.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, use stairs, and safely access equipment.

· Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods.

Compensation

Starting salary: $65,000 , depending on qualifications and experience.

Pay: $41,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
