What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service Representative - Auto Repair position at JW Diesel and Automotive?
Representative - Auto Repair
JW Diesel & Automotive - Carbondale, CO
$18-$30/hour, based on experience
Full-Time - Monday-Friday (No Weekends)
About Us & The Opportunity:
At JW Diesel & Automotive, we keep our community moving. From Roaring Fork Valley commuter cars to heavy-duty diesel work trucks, our shop is known for high-quality repairs and honest service.
We are looking for an organized, proactive Customer Service Representative (CSR) to join our team. This isn't just a front desk job, it is a career track. We want someone who wants to learn the ropes from the ground up, master our front office operations, and ideally grow into a full-fledged Service Advisor role.
You do not need to be a mechanic, and you do not need years of automotive experience. What matters more is that you enjoy working with people, stay organized when things get busy, and genuinely want to learn.
For the right person, this is not where the career stops. It is where it starts.
What Working Here Looks Like:
The front counter plays an important role in that experience.
Customers should feel welcomed when they walk in, understand what is happening with their vehicle, and know that someone is paying attention to the details. You will work closely with the Service Advisor and the rest of the shop to help make that happen.
You will learn how appointments are managed, how repair orders move through the shop, how parts and paperwork are handled, and how strong communication builds long-term customer relationships.
As your knowledge and confidence grow, you will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and develop toward a full Service Advisor position.
Pay & Benefits:
Pay: $18-$30 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday with no weekends
Benefits include:
- Health and dental insurance with 50% of the premium covered by the employer
- 80 hours of paid time off
- Paid holidays
- SIMPLE IRA with up to a 3% company match after one year of employment
- Generous employee discounts on vehicle parts and repairs
- Direct mentorship and training toward becoming a Service Advisor
What You'll Be Doing:
Your day will be a mix of customer service, organization, communication, and shop support.
- Support the Service Advisor: Work side by side with our lead Service Advisor, handling critical administrative tasks, paperwork, and logistics so they can focus on estimates and diagnostics.
- Manage Parts & Logistics: Assist with parts check-in when deliveries arrive, verify invoices, track core returns, and handle shipping for parts returns.
- Be the Face & Voice of the Shop: Greet walk-in customers with a smile, check them in, and manage a multi-line phone system to book appointments and take detailed messages.
- Keep Us Organized: Manage the appointment calendar, organize vehicle keys, and handle customer check-outs and payments.
Experience & Requirements:
- At least 1 year of customer-facing or administrative experience preferred
- Hospitality, retail, reception, office, or front-desk experience can translate well into this role
- Automotive or diesel shop experience is a plus, but is not required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn shop management software
- Strong verbal communication and organizational skills
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds when handling incoming parts or deliveries
What We Are Looking For:
- Growth Mindset: You want to learn the business, understand how an automotive shop operates, and move up into a higher paying Service Advisor role.
- Administrative & Tech Savvy: You are comfortable working with computers, learning shop management software, and keeping paperwork highly organized.
- Logistics-Minded: You don't mind lifting the occasional parts box, checking packing slips, and making sure the right parts match the right jobs.
- People Person: You genuinely enjoy talking to people, helping others, and bringing positive energy to a team environment.
A Role You Can Grow Into:
One of the biggest advantages of this position is exposure.
Instead of being separated from the rest of the business, you will work alongside the Service Advisor and learn how the pieces of an automotive shop connect.
The goal is to develop someone who can eventually step into a Service Advisor role with a strong understanding of both the customer experience and the day-to-day operation of the shop.
You do not need to be a mechanic! We will teach you our systems and everything you need to know about the automotive world.
What you do need is the willingness to learn, take ownership of your work, treat customers well, and become someone the rest of the team can rely on.
If you are curious, dependable, and willing to learn, there is room to build a real career here.
