Irrigation Technician - Experienced Required

Job Overview

The Irrigation Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs irrigation systems that support landscaped areas, turf, sports fields, or agricultural applications. The role requires technical understanding of irrigation components, hydraulics, controls, and water management. The role helps protect plant health, conserve water, and keep irrigation assets operating reliably through accurate installation, troubleshooting, and repair. The Irrigation Technician is expected to work safely, communicate professionally, and contribute to dependable service outcomes that support organizational standards and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems.
• Cut and join pipe and install valves, controllers, wiring, pumps, and backflow components.
• Troubleshoot system failures and perform repairs.
• Test system performance and support efficient water use.
• Interpret site conditions, measurements, and in some cases plans or drawings.
• Keep service records and maintain parts/supplies.
• Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Formal education is not always required.
• Some candidates complete irrigation technology study.
• Employers may prioritize certification and field experience over degrees.
• Proven troubleshooting and repair ability.
• Basic knowledge of irrigation design logic, controllers, hydraulics, and wiring.
• Recordkeeping and customer communication skills.
• Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) preferred or strongly valued.
• State or local irrigation license where applicable.
• Strong understanding of irrigation components, hydraulics, basic electrical principles, and water management.
• Ability to use trenchers, leak detectors, cutters, flow meters, and related tools.
• Physical ability to work outdoors and move equipment.

Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour
