JustLead Washington seeks a Development Manager to support its team, programs, and administrative operations.

Position Summary

The Development Manager plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s fundraising and resource development strategy. Working closely with the Executive Director and JustLead’s staff, the Development Manager leads individual giving, grants, sponsorships, and fundraising events, while stewarding donors and key partners. This role combines strategic planning, relationship management, and hands-on execution to ensure sustainable revenue growth aligned with organizational values.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Development Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


Fundraising & Revenue Generation (20%)

  • Lead JustLead’s fundraising efforts through individual donations and events, grants and sponsorships, with guidance and oversight from the Executive Director.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, institutional funders, and sponsors.
  • Prioritize and coordinate Executive Director engagement in fundraising activities, including donor meetings and cultivation opportunities.


Grants & Sponsorships (10%)

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals and reports to support organizational programs and initiatives.
  • Manage grant tracking, reporting timelines, and compliance requirements.


Membership & Donor Stewardship (25%)

  • Manage and grow the organization’s membership program (organizational and individual), including recruitment, retention, stewardship, and member benefits.
  • Develop and implement proactive donor stewardship and recognition strategies.
  • Facilitate donor lists and ensure accurate donor recognition across print and digital platforms.
  • Oversee donor recognition systems to track, evaluate, and improve acknowledgment practices.


Communications & Engagement (20%)

  • Create, write, and edit development-related communications, including donor appeals, impact reports, email campaigns, newsletters, and annual fund letters.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent development voice aligned with the organization’s mission, values, branding, and fundraising priorities.
  • Facilitate a monthly individual membership email newsletter series.

 

Events Management (15%)

  • Serve as project manager for fundraising events, including one major annual fundraiser and smaller cultivation events or house/organizational gatherings.


Data Management & Ethics (10%)

  • Maintain accurate donor records and reports while safeguarding the confidentiality of donor information at all times.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and professional ethical standards regarding information gathering, data use, and donor privacy.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in development, fundraising, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques, including individual giving, direct mail/email appeals, sponsorships, and grant writing.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and manage competing requests.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to audit work for accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling donor solicitations, acknowledgments, and stewardship materials.
  • Experience tailoring messages for diverse audiences with clarity, inclusivity, and cultural competence.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a commitment to respectful, responsive, and high-quality stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within diverse teams and environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Teams); experience with donor databases is a plus.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as required for events and donor engagement.

Compensation & Benefits

It is anticipated that the Manager will work 20 hours per week. This is an exempt part-time position. JustLead partners work and live in different communities across the state. At times, the Manager may travel throughout the state or out of state as organizational needs dictate.

The position will start as soon as possible. The salary range for this position is $35,000 to $45,000 per year. The position offers leave benefits and a monthly stipend for transportation and other expenses. This position is hybrid, requiring weekly in-person work at the office, based in Seattle, with some statewide travel required.
