Position Title: Hygiene Hero Volunteer Coordinator

Position Overview:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, and supporting volunteers who help advance the organization’s mission. This role ensures volunteers have meaningful experiences while effectively supporting programs, events, and community initiatives.
The Volunteer Coordinator serves as relationship manager with volunteers, community partners, and staff to ensure volunteer efforts are well organized, impactful, and aligned with organizational goals.
This role also supports development efforts by leveraging volunteer programs, events, and community engagement to strengthen small donor relationships and expand grassroots fundraising opportunities
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Recruitment, Outreach & Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit, engage, and retain a diverse network of volunteers
- Build and maintain relationships with community groups, schools, corporations, and civic organizations
- Promote volunteer opportunities through social media, community events, and partner networks
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer communications
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and mission-driven volunteer culture
- Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions to support ongoing engagement and retention
Volunteer Onboarding, Training & Development
- Conduct volunteer orientations and role-specific training
- Ensure volunteers understand the organization’s mission, programs, policies, and expectations
- Provide ongoing guidance, support, and feedback
- Ensure adherence to safety, confidentiality, and program standards
Volunteer Management & Scheduling
- Coordinate volunteer assignments, schedules, and event staffing needs
- Match volunteers with opportunities based on skills, interests, and organizational priorities
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, hours, and contact information
Program, Event & Community Engagement
- Plan and host volunteer-driven activities, including hygiene kit assembly, distributions, donation drives, and community outreach events
- Ensure volunteers are prepared with materials, instructions, and on-site support
- Serve as the primary point of contact during programs and events
- Represent the organization at community events, volunteer fairs, and outreach opportunities
- Collaborate with program staff to align volunteer and event efforts with organizational goals
- Support the integration of fundraising elements into events and outreach efforts to enhance donor engagement and community support
Small Donor Engagement & Support
- Support the cultivation and stewardship of small donors through events, campaigns, and donation drives
- Build and maintain relationships with grassroots supporters and community donors
- Coordinate volunteer involvement in donor engagement activities
- Assist in converting volunteers, event participants, and community partners into small donor supporters
- Support development initiatives by identifying opportunities within events and volunteer programs to grow small donor engagement and retention
Operations, Reporting & Administration
- Track volunteer participation, hours, and program impact
- Maintain databases and volunteer/donor communication systems
- Prepare reports on engagement and program outcomes
- Collect feedback to improve volunteer and community programs
Qualifications:
Required
- 2–4 years of experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, nonprofit work, or community engagement (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage volunteers or teams
- Experience planning, hosting, or supporting community events and outreach initiatives
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build , serve, and maintain relationships across diverse communities
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, including event setup and on-site coordination
- Proficiency with basic technology tools (e.g., email platforms, Google Workspace, CRM or volunteer/donor databases, and social media)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events
Preferred
- Experience in nonprofit, social services, or community-based organizations
- Experience engaging donors, supporters, or community partners, particularly grassroots or small donor networks
- Familiarity with volunteer management systems or CRM platforms
- Experience supporting fundraising efforts, donation drives, or community campaigns
- Experience supporting event-based fundraising or small donor development initiatives is highly valued
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Primarily office-based, with regular travel to support community events, volunteer activities, and outreach initiatives
- Requires reliable transportation to travel to partner locations and program sites
- Ability to lift and move supplies up to 25 lbs
