Qualifications:
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education:
Four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree with courses related to the occupation.
Experience:
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide.
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
- Experience in providing personal nursing care, such as providing pre- and post-operative care.
- Experience in caring for mentally ill and long-term patients, including observing, recording, and reporting change in their behavior.
- Experience assisting physicians and nurses with exams or treatments dealing with patient care, including turning and positioning patients, draping, maintaining sterile conditions and use of safety restraints.
If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

Responsibilities:
Assists Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) in performing patient care activities for psychiatric and long-term medical/surgical patients.
Rotates with other nursing assistants in assignments, working variable hours.
Assists with admissions and dismissals, including delivery of medical records as necessary.
Reports pertinent data in a timely manner to the medical staff including changes in patient’s condition requiring assessment and/or further intervention.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff’s correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
