Job Description: Float Teacher (part-time)
The role of the Floating Teacher is to provide support to and assist the lead teacher run the classroom throughout the day. The main task will be to cover breaks for regular classroom teachers and to fill in on days where a teacher or co-teacher are out sick or on vacation.
Qualifications:
· At least 18 years of age
· High school diploma or GED
· Satisfactorily completed 1 DCF-approved course or be enrolled in a training within 6 months after assuming the position.
· Obtain training in being an assistant child care teacher
· If working with infants and toddlers, must also have completed a course in the care of infants and toddlers
· Has or willing to obtain training in: CPR/First Aid, SIDS,/Shaken Baby, Mandated Reporter, and Abusive Head Trauma
· Must meet yearly training requirements
· Health exam, with TB test
· Must pass background checks: name and fingerprint
· Be able to perform physical labor as needed for the position
Duties:
· Assist the classroom teacher
· After fully meeting training requirements, can be the staff person in charge for the first two or last two hours of the day
· Fills in breaks, sick days, appointments, and vacation days for lead and assistant teachers
· Maintain a nurturing and safe environment for children
· Assist classroom or co-teacher with daily schedule, routines, and lessons
· Respond to children’s social, emotional, physical and educational needs
· Engage children in activities as assigned by classroom teacher
· Assist with health and safety routines such as hand washing and toileting
Pay: $11.00 - $13.00 per hour
