Quality Assurance Lab Technician – 3rd Shift

Position Overview
An established manufacturer in the Northwest Chicago suburbs is seeking a Quality Assurance Lab Technician for its 3rd shift operation.
This position is responsible for inspecting manufactured components, monitoring production quality, maintaining accurate inspection records, and identifying nonconforming product before it reaches the customer.
We're looking for someone with hands-on manufacturing quality experience who is comfortable using precision measuring equipment, reading blueprints, and working with SPC data.
What You'll Do
- Perform scheduled inspections of components throughout the production process.
- Complete first-piece/startup approvals and final production inspections.
- Perform dimensional and visual inspections to verify products meet established specifications.
- Collect, review, and document Statistical Process Control (SPC) data.
- Monitor process measurements and identify conditions that fall outside established control limits.
- Identify, segregate, and properly document potentially nonconforming material.
- Assist with containment activities when quality concerns are discovered.
- Initiate internal quality or corrective-action documentation when necessary.
- Maintain inspection records, logs, reference samples, and related quality documentation.
- Inspect completed secondary-operation components for compliance with customer specifications.
- Communicate quality concerns to production and quality leadership.
- Participate in end-of-shift communication and pass-down activities.
- Support continuous improvement and "right the first time" quality initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- At least 1 year of manufacturing quality assurance or inspection experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a plastics or injection molding environment is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of SPC and basic quality-control principles.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints and specifications.
- Experience using precision inspection equipment such as:
- Micrometers
- Calipers
- Indicators
- Height gauges
- Gauge pins and gauge blocks
- Vision inspection equipment
- Comfortable entering and reviewing inspection information using a Windows-based computer.
- Ability to recognize dimensional, visual, and color-related product variations.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with production, quality, and supervisory personnel.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Candidates with strong manufacturing inspection experience who may not meet every listed qualification are still encouraged to apply.
Physical Requirements
This position involves a combination of laboratory/desk work and movement throughout the manufacturing facility. Candidates must be able to:
- Work at a computer and inspection station for extended periods.
- Safely navigate production and quality areas.
- Lift up to approximately 15 pounds.
- Perform repetitive inspection and measurement activities.
