A leading MEP design consultancy is seeking a Mechanical Design Director to lead mechanical engineering operations in the Tampa office. This role oversees project delivery, drives technical excellence, supports strategic growth, and ensures high-quality engineering solutions across multiple sectors including Healthcare, Commercial, Government, and Education.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing mechanical engineering team.
- Manage cross-functional teams and collaborate closely with electrical, plumbing, and project management groups.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability.
Project Oversight
- Oversee mechanical design delivery for complex building projects.
- Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Provide senior-level technical guidance and resolve complex engineering challenges.
- Review and approve mechanical design packages, calculations, and specifications.
Financial & Operational Management
- Lead cost analysis, budgeting, and financial forecasting for mechanical engineering projects.
- Manage departmental performance, resource allocation, and workload planning.
- Support the development of proposals, fee structures, and scope documentation.
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the Tampa office and wider business.
- Identify market trends, growth opportunities, and potential client partnerships.
- Support business development efforts and strengthen key client relationships.

Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master s preferred).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required.
- 10 years of mechanical design experience in building services.
- Proven leadership experience within an MEP consultancy.
- Strong understanding of codes, standards, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, team leadership, and strategic thinking skills.
