Under general supervision, the Recreation Leader assists in recreation programs and directs, organizes, and conducts recreation activities for various age groups at community centers, parks and gymnasiums, special events, or other assigned areas. The recreation leader will play a vital role in multiple programs that bring our community centers, parks, and gyms to life, assisting in running recreation programs, leading activities for all ages, and organizing the fun at special events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Preparation and Support:
- Arrange furniture and equipment for events (sports, banquets, parties, meetings, classes, etc.)
- Assist with program planning and organization.
- Set up and clean up recreational areas and equipment.
- Perform essential maintenance and cleaning tasks.
- Collaborate with other co-workers and supervisors to keep things running smoothly.
- Provides supervisor with necessary information concerning programs and supplies.
- Assists volunteers in leading recreational activities or assignments.
Recreation Aides Assigned To JMDC May Be Required To Perform The Following Duties Based On Scheduling Needs, Training, And Comfort Level:
- Assist with retail operations in the JMDC gift shop, including greeting visitors, providing information, organizing merchandise, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
- Supervise student groups, facilitate museum or outdoor learning activities, and help with hands-on demonstrations to support field trips and educational programs.
- Provide general information to visitors about JMDC programs, events, exhibits, and facility rules.
- Be willing to work in close proximity to animal enclosures and participate in animal-related tasks—assisting with the care and maintenance of live animal exhibits, including feeding, habitat cleaning, and monitoring animal health and safety in accordance with established guidelines.
- Monitor activities and enforce safety rules to ensure orderly conduct in a safe and fun environment.
- Maintain a safe environment for participants and staff.
- Lead activities according to schedules and registration requirements.
- Organize, officiate, and instruct children’s activities (sports, games, crafts).
- Teach fundamentals of play and sportsmanship.
- Monitor spectators and participants at sporting and special events.
- Keeps attendance records, financial collections, or scores at sporting events and other activities.
- Represent District policies and procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service and public relations.
- Answer questions and provide information about programs and supplies.
- Answering phones, providing information, and receiving and receiving program fees and facility deposits.
- Lead patrons in activities and follow schedules and registration requirements.
- Receive, store, and maintain equipment and supplies.
- Performs general facility inspections and maintenance to recreation facilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or the equivalent. (GED)
- A combination of education, volunteer work, or training that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this role.
- Prior experience in recreational activities. (a plus)

- Effectively interpret and apply information from various documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Clearly and concisely write routine reports and professional correspondence.
- Confidently deliver presentations to audiences such as customers, employees, or organizations.
- Bilingual is a plus.
