We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Mine Planner to support our surface mining operations in Southwest Ohio, including sand and gravel pits, limestone quarries, and dredging sites. This role plays a critical part in both mine planning and permitting, ensuring regulatory compliance while driving operational efficiency and resource optimization. The ideal candidate will have experience in mine design, regulatory submittals, and GIS-based mapping. A background in geology and proficiency in Carlson software is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Mine Planning
- Develop short-term and long-term mine plans to guide safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction activities.
- Utilize Carlson Software to design pit progression, dredge layouts, haul roads, and reclamation plans.
- Update maps, models, and extraction forecasts using GIS and CAD software.
- Collaborate with survey teams and operations staff to validate and adjust mine plans based on field conditions.
- Monitor production progress, inventory volumes, and material quality to inform planning updates.
Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
- Lead and manage permitting activities for new and existing mine sites, including local, state (OH), and federal (MSHA, Army Corps, EPA) applications and renewals.
- Prepare and submit required documentation for MSHA and other agencies, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
- Coordinate environmental reports, bond estimates, and mine maps in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Track permit timelines, expiration dates, and inspection requirements, maintaining proactive communication with regulatory bodies.
- Assist with internal audits, safety reviews, and compliance reporting.
Field & Technical Support
- Conduct site visits to collect field data, observe operations, and communicate with field teams.
- Support survey efforts and assist in reserve calculations, overburden stripping, and reclamation strategies.
- Maintain digital records and map libraries in accordance with operational and regulatory standards.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mine planning, permitting, or regulatory compliance for surface mining operations.
- Experience working with MSHA, state environmental agencies, and local permitting authorities.
- Proficiency with Carlson Software (strongly preferred) and GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS).
- Knowledge of sand & gravel and limestone mining, including dredging operations.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel locally to active mine and dredge sites.
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based planning and field-based site visits.
- Work across multiple active and proposed mine sites throughout Southwest Ohio.
- Regular interaction with operations, environmental, safety, and external regulatory agencies.
