What You’ll Do
- Safely and skillfully operate asphalt paver equipment to lay hot mix asphalt to proper depth, width, grade, and finish
- Set up paver screed and sensors based on job specs, including mat thickness and slope
- Work closely with the roller operator and ground crew to ensure a consistent, even mat
- Perform pre-operation inspections, light maintenance, and cleaning of the paver daily
- Understand project layouts, grades, transitions, and compaction requirements
- Maintain smooth paving operations by communicating with dump truck drivers and flaggers
- Ensure quality control by monitoring mix temperature, texture, and flow
- Assist in other crew activities when necessary (shoveling, raking, or minor equipment)
- Follow safety and environmental guidelines at all times, including use of PPE
What You Bring
- 2 years of experience operating a commercial asphalt paver (e.g., Vogele, Caterpillar, LeeBoy, Roadtec, etc.)
- Proven experience on commercial paving jobs such as parking lots, subdivisions, city streets, or tennis courts
- Strong understanding of paving best practices including joint matching, grade control, and mat finish
- Ability to read and understand paving plans and grade stakes
- Familiarity with electronic screed controls and grade automation systems a plus
- Willingness to work in a team environment with a safety-first mindset
- Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment for long shifts
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred but Not Required
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience with GPS or automatic grade control systems
- CDL is a plus
