Education Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. RHIT/RHIA certification preferred. Experience / Qualifications 2 years minimum experience in HIM Field RHIT/RHIA a plus. Experience in HIM field with Electronic Medical Record systems, specifically information related to processing release of information requests. Cerner experience a plus, must have strong knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Good strong understanding of HIM record processing, workflow and Electronic Medical Records. Knowledge of Florida Statutes, HIPAA HiTech, and other insurance laws and regulations a must. Strong analytic, and computer skills. Must also have good communication and organizational skills. Position Summary The HIM Release of Information Specialist is responsible for processing Release of Information (ROI) requests for physician practices to include patient care, legal, subpoena’s, insurance requests, etc. Responsibilities include: Monitor work queues in Physician Practice EMR to ensure required turnaround time is met per Florida Statutes. Issue invoices for medical record copy fees associated with ROI requests. Work with key individuals in physician offices to answer any ROI discrepancies. Coordination/reconciliation of documents in legal medical record to ensure proper indexing and maintenance of the legal medical record is achieved. Ensure HIPAA Amendment Requests are routed to HIM Integrity Specialist. Report urgent issues to HIM Manager/Director and provide weekly turnaround time (TAT) reports to HIM Manager/Director for compliance monitoring. Other assigned duties All other duties assigned.
